About Gesshoji
Gesshoji Temple, the mausoleum of the successive lords of the Matsue Domain, is steeped in deep history and enduring legends.
Visitors are captivated by its diverse charms: the splendor of the past conveyed through art and treasures, the refined beauty of its architecture, and gardens that reflect the serene beauty of each season.
Temple grounds guide

The mausoleums of the domain lords, centered around cultural properties,
have been preserved almost exactly as they were at the time of their construction.
These valuable structures, meticulously crafted by master artisans,
are rare even on a national scale.

Annual events
Gesshoji is affectionately known as the “Hydrangea Temple of the San’in Region.”
From mid-June to July during the rainy season, hydrangeas bloom in full glory across the grounds.
We also hold major annual events, such as the Mantoue ceremony, where lanterns are lit to create a magical, dreamlike atmosphere.

Eternal memorial service
This is a grave maintained with care and respect by the temple.
It offers peace of mind by ensuring that your loved ones will be watched over for generations to come—
an ideal option for those with family living far away or concerns about future upkeep.
