Regarding Worship and Visits
What are the visiting hours?
Visiting hours are 10:00 to 16:00 (tea service 10:30 to 15:30)
, however, in June, hours are 8:30 to 17:30 (tea service 10:00 to 16:00).
Last entry is 30 minutes before closing.
Are there any closing days?
The temple will be closed from December 31st to January 3rd. However, if you wish to visit or receive a temple stamp, please contact us in advance.
Please note that opening hours may change due to weather or other events.
How much is the admission fee?
*Cashless payment is not accepted.
Is photography allowed?
Photography is permitted, however, we regretfully cannot allow the bringing in of large equipment or the presence of models during photo shoots.
Please also refrain from taking photos that may disturb other visitors.
Is the temple accessible by wheelchair?
The temple grounds feature many historical features and cobblestone paths, and due to the uneven terrain and steps, some areas are difficult to navigate in a wheelchair.
The structure also makes it difficult to install ramps, and staff assistance is not available.
While some areas may be accessible with assistance from a companion, we recommend checking the situation beforehand.
Can I visit with a pet?
Pets are not allowed inside the temple grounds.

Is there parking available?
Free parking is available.
However, if you are arriving by large bus, please contact us in advance.
Where is the nearest station or bus stop?
About 15 minutes by bus from JR Matsue Station; get off at the "Gesshoji-mae" bus stop and walk about 1 minute.
How can I access by taxi?
It's about a 10-minute taxi ride from JR Matsue Station.
Telling the driver "to Gesshoji Temple" will make things smoother.

Who is enshrined in the Otamaya (mausoleum)?
Gesshoji Temple the mausoleum of successive lords of the Matsue Domain , and contains the tombs of the first lord, Matsudaira Naomasa, to the ninth lord, Matsudaira Nariaki.
Are there places related to Lord Fumai (Harusato)?
There is a mausoleum for Lord Fumai (Matsudaira Harusato).
Additionally, tea ceremony utensils and cultural artifacts associated with Lord Fumai are housed here.

Is there a Goshuin (temple seal)?
Yes, we offer Goshuin (temple stamps) for Gesshoji Temple.
Please purchase them at the reception desk in the study hall.
Is there a place where I can enjoy tea?
You can enjoy tea and sweets in the study hall.
Please request this when you register for your visit.
Is a reservation required for visits?
Individual visits do not require a reservation , but group visits require advance reservations.
