Regarding Worship and Visits
What are the visiting hours?
Visiting hours are from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM (tea service from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM).
In June, hours are from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM (tea service from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM).
Last admission is 30 minutes before closing.
Are there any closing days?
The temple is closed from December 31 to January 3.
However, if you wish to visit for worship or receive a Goshuin during this period, please contact us in advance. Please note that closures may also occur due to weather conditions or special events.
How much is the admission fee?
For individuals: Adults 700 yen, elementary and junior high school students 500 yen, free for preschool children.
Group discounts are available for groups of 30 or more.

Is photography allowed?
Photography is permitted, but bringing in large equipment or conducting model shoots is not allowed.
Please refrain from any photography that may disturb other visitors.
Is the temple accessible by wheelchair?
Due to the historic terrain and stone-paved areas, there are many steps and uneven surfaces that make wheelchair access difficult.
Installing ramps is also structurally challenging, and staff assistance is not available.
If accompanied by someone who can assist, it may be possible to view some areas; we recommend checking the conditions in advance.
Can I visit with a pet?
Pets are not allowed inside the temple grounds.
Regarding Access
Is there parking available?
Free parking is available.
However, if you are coming by large bus, please contact us in advance.
Where is the nearest station or bus stop?
About 15 minutes by bus from JR Matsue Station; get off at the "Gesshoji-mae" bus stop and walk about 1 minute.
How can I access by taxi?
About 10 minutes by taxi from JR Matsue Station.
Please tell the driver, “To Gesshoji.”
Regarding Cultural Properties and History
Who is enshrined in the Otamaya (mausoleum)?
Are there places related to Lord Fumai (Harusato)?
There is a mausoleum for Lord Harusato (Lord Fumai),
and tea utensils and cultural properties associated with him are also preserved.
What is the "Mantoue"?
An annual event held on August 15, where lanterns at the mausoleum are lit to honor the spirits of ancestors.
It is a precious opportunity to experience a fantastical atmosphere.

Is there a Goshuin (temple seal)?
Yes, Goshuin are available at the reception desk in the Shoin.
Is there a place where I can enjoy tea?
You can enjoy tea and sweets at the Shoin.
Please apply at the time of your visit reception.
Is a reservation required for visits?
No reservation is needed for individual visits. However, advance reservations are required for group visits.
