Date and time: Friday, August 15, 2020, 17:30-20:30

Approximately 500 lanterns are lit within the temple grounds to commemorate the souls of the successive Matsudaira feudal lords and the ancestors of each family.

Visitors are asked to purchase a cup candle (700 yen each) as part of their admission fee and light it on the approach to the shrine and at the gravesite.

The temple grounds are enveloped in a fantastical light as the lanterns, paper lanterns, and cup candles are lit.

*This is the only day of the year when you can visit the temple at night.
